5 Storied Pagoda, located in the Gion District. The pagoda has stood since the 1400’s. Traveler’s might think this is what ‘typical’ old Japan would look like.
The pagoda is surrounded by (mostly) small old houses. Easy to locate at the end of a narrow roadway. The streets are directed towards it and nice photo spots both from below (west) and above (east) of the pagoda.
Many little shops and restaurants along the way. We are amazed seeing Geisha walking up and down to the Shrine. Our Guide explains it is easy to spot fake Geisha by hairdo. We realize these ladies are tourists.
