We were on the boat with our family and looked over the edge of the boat and noticed it was named Portuguese Man of War. The man-of-war comprises four separate polyps. Our son told us they are covered in venom-filled nematocysts and are excruciatingly painful.

Ryan jumped in the ocean and dragged him out of the water. Made us nervous but he killed him.

Cheers to you Ryan.

Wow – I was once stung by a regular small jellyfish and that was painful enough! I’d hate to encounter one of these while swimming.

The Australian common name is a Bluebottle. The sting from the tentacles is so painful. Only had it once as a small child so it is remembered well

Why did he kill the critter? Is there an overpopulation of them around the island?
