Machu Picchu – Peru

2004An amazing site to see. We travelled by train from Cusco. Just over a 3-hour journey beginning with a series of switchbacks, known appropriately as the ‘zig-zag’ on the hills, out of Cusco. It made me nervous.

Machu Picchu is an Incan citadel set high in the Andes Mountains in Peru, above the Urubamba River valley. We stayed a couple of nights and were fortunate to skip the huge rain storm. Even though with the Fog it was a sensational site to see.  It was believed to be built sometime in the 1400’s.Machu Picchu is an Incan citadel set high in the Andes Mountains in Peru, above the Urubamba River valley. it’s renowned for its sophisticated 3000 dry-stone walls with huge blocks We saw these panoramic views from the top. 1. I always wanted to hike to Machu Pichu as part of my goal of hiking in every continent but I’ve heard it is now very busy and they have stopped hikers. I think I will head to Chile and do the ‘W’ trek when I can.

  2. I was there only 14 years after you! Gorgeous, mysterious site…I went on a very sunny day, without a cloud in the sky, and got nearly a second-degree sunburn as a result! No regrets with the beautiful views, though!
