Resplendent Quetzals – Costa Rica

We hiked around the area in Monteverde with our guide in February 2020. Within the hour we came across these Quetzals. I was so pleased to take a photo through his telescopic lens with my phone.

Although the northern Quetzal is the national bird of Guatemala we’ve been told by our guide there is a much larger population in Costa Rica because the forests are better protected here.
