Sandakan – Malaysia

Monsoon Season

Travelling to Borneo during Monsoon season is probably not the wisest option. However in many ways it added to our adventure. On our first night the rains were pounding down and we feared we could be washed away. The water was roaring down the hill behind us all night long. On a positive note, in the morning the rain subsided and all went well.

The Sepilok Jungle Lodge

The Sepilok Jungle Lodge was quite rustic, but perfect for us. We wanted to stay in the heart of the jungle and close as possible to Sepilok and we got what we were hoping for. Literally we are sleeping next door to the Orangutans.

Foot Bridge

During the night we heard pounding rain and it made us nervous. We thought might get washed away. With the Monsoon rains we walked across the footbridge to the Banana Cafe for every meal. This rustic lodge is surrounded by beautiful vegetation. This is where I fell in love with the mighty Travelers Palm.
