Banyan Tree – Costa Rica

Becky’s Tree Square challenge for this month.

This was the hugest tree we have ever seen. It is also called ‘Strangler Fig’. It  begins as a sticky seed on a branch high up in the canopy of a tree and are usually left there by an animal. As the young strangler fig grows, long roots grow down along the trunk of the host tree, eventually completely engulfing the host tree trunk.
