The Killing Fields – Cambodia

With no doubt, this is one of those sites that describes mankind at its worst. So hauntingly quiet. Between 1975-1978, these years of horror, my senses can not take this all in.

The leader of the Communist Party ,Pol Pot, pushed Cambodia towards communism. It resulted in the deaths of 1.5 to 2 million people from 1975 to 1979, nearly a quarter of Cambodia’s 1975 population

Behind the glass there are 8000 human skulls of men, women and children. I had to take a photo of this disaster site. I wondered why their bones were not buried.

They are here to ensure we listen to their plea to stop brutality. The memory of this destruction of humanity, will live on in all, who will remember this horrific time in Cambodia.

KILLING TREE Our guide told us, children and infants of adult victims were killed  by having their heads bashed against the trunks of Chankiri trees. Such a horrendous site to see and think about.

  1. And, it really hasn’t been that long ago this atrocity happened. When reading the book, “Never Fall Down” by Patricia McCormick, I literally was sick to my stomach because of this terrible and haunting evil that the Cambodian people endured. I personally know a lady who escaped to the U.S. She never talks about it.
