The bus ride from Puno to the border took just over two hours. The Bolivia Peru border crossing may sound like a daunting task, and sometimes it is. It can be easy to run into problems, delays and just a whole lot of hassle. We worked out a plan with our bus driver. The Driver drove through the gates and approached the Border Patrol officer giving a list of names of his passengers. We walked through the Gateway and the officer asked $20.00 for entry and $20.00 on exit….otherwise we could have been stuck at the Border for hours.

Oh, border crossings in South America. You never know what may happen.

I’ve never heard of paying at the border, and especially not for both entry AND exit. Is this really the case for your situation? Sounds like it was a scam…
