This museum is the site of the S-21 detention center. It was once a school in the center of Phnom Penh . In 1975 it became the center for torture and death. From 1976 to 1979, an estimated 20,000 people were imprisoned at Tuol Sleng. The exact numbers are unknown.

For some horrific reason the Knmer Rouge deemed it was necessary to photograph each victim before they were killed. Their faces line the walls in the museum and help us to visualize the shameful, horrific and sad time of the past.

We went to a similar museum, but in Siem Reap. It was very moving.

It was a truly awful place wasn’t it. So many people killed it’s a wonder Cambodia ever got back on its feet again

I visited a few years ago. Places like this and Killing Fields sites make you wonder about the human race.

Wow. That is astounding. I wonder if anyone will put together a museum of photos of all the people who have died from Covid-19.

It is a very moving visit, all the visitors are shocked by the horrible and arbitrary treatment received by so many prisoners. From Tuol Sleng to Choeung Ek, there is a deep sadness not found elsewhere.
