Cheticamp – Cape Breton, Nova Scotia

Cheticamp is located on the Gulf of St Lawrence. During the 1700’s Chéticamp was a fishing station used during the summer months by a merchant from the island of Jersey. Although fishing has always played a key role in the local economy, tourism became increasingly important with the creation of Cape Breton Highlands National Park in 1936.  It is considered one of the Acadian capitals of the world.

Built in 1893, St. Pierre Church majestically watches over the Acadian community.

We are amazed seeing these creative hooked rugs. The colors, are always hand dyed..
