My Son Sanctuary – UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE Site –

Located in Central Vietnam, a little over and hour drive from Hoi An. Upon arrival we board a shuttle to My Son which lies far inside from the gates. Our guide does a great job maneuvering us through the site with lots of explanation.

It was constructed as Hindu Temples dating back between the 4TH and the 13TH centuries. It had once been buried by vines and vegetation. It is considered the foremost heritage site in Vietnam and compares to Ayutthaya Thailand and Angkor Wat of Cambodia. A large majority has destroyed by bombing during the Vietnam War. Sadly another piece of ancient history destroyed. We are told to stick to the paths as there are still land mines in the surrounding jungle.

  1. I have a friend in Viet Nam who was doing motorcycle tours until the virus. He loves it there. I guess they just opened up a bit ago and now he’s riding again without the tour but posting wonderful sites there.
