The medieval Castle is situated in the old historic area of Limassol. This is where King Richard the Lionheart was married during the Crusades in 1191. Many replicas here dating back from the 3rd century…. weapons, Medieval pottery, tombs, crosses etc. The Castle was rebuilt in 1590 during the time of Ottoman rule. Its architecture definitely transports one to a different space in time.
It is now raining hard. We make our way to the Grand Mosque in the old Turkish quarter. We learned later it was built in the 16th century. We waited here for 20 minutes to try to escape the pounding rain. Rain continued so we walk back to our hotel. We spent the whole afternoon drying our shoes with the hairdryer!
The best part of the evening was this amazing restaurant “Charcoal Grill” Wine, beer, 11 varieties of grilled meats, Greek Loukaniko Sausage which is a highlight for me, Greek salad, home cooked pita, fries, all for 26 euros. When we finished we were stuffed and contented!!!
